Manipulators for scientific and industrial nuclear research

Wälischmiller Engineering has been developing manipulators for the nuclear sector for more than 70 years. Research facilities in scientific and industrial nuclear research rely on our systems when it comes to precise work under the influence of radiation. The manipulators A100 und A200 have proved particularly successful. They enable sensitive movements with maximum precision and are used in shielded cells, material testing facilities and laboratory environments. Our handling technology is designed for long-term use and maximum operational reliability.

Proven technology for demanding research tasks

In scientific nuclear research, for example in facilities such as CERN or the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, materials are examined under real radiation conditions. Since the 1960s, HWM has been supplying manipulators to German and international research facilities that meet the high demands of nuclear research. It all began with a distribution system for radioactive materials for the Hahn-Meitner Institute in Berlin in 1958.

Since then, Wälischmiller has developed into one of the leading manufacturers of manipulators for nuclear research on the European and international market. The front runners are the A100 and A200 Manipulators that enable precise gripping, guiding and positioning of samples, components and test setups. Controlled handling is crucial, especially in material testing facilities where materials are exposed to radioactive radiation.

Our manipulators and robots are designed for decades of use. Spare parts are provided for the entire service life or replaced by suitable alternatives. Maintenance, modernization and technical service are provided worldwide. Many systems have been in operation for decades and are continuously serviced.

What customers from scientific and industrial research say

Wälischmiller Engineering has been equipping research facilities in Germany and abroad for over six decades. The majority of German nuclear research facilities have been purchasing manipulators from HWM for many years.

International research institutions, such as the SCK CEN - the Belgian Nuclear Energy Study Center, also rely on our proven technology, which is manufactured in southern Germany.

Our systems make a decisive contribution to the controlled performance of experiments under the influence of radiation. We will be happy to send you further references on request. "We have a very good working relationship with Wälischmiller. Their technical proposals are what we call “juste de besoin”—solutions perfectly tailored to our actual requirements. In my role as the technical and contractual liaison for a French experimental nuclear reactor project, I work closely with their team. Wälischmiller is a financially reliable partner that supplies high-quality equipment. Due to the strict requirements of the nuclear industry, documentation can be demanding, but Wälischmiller is responsive and cooperative when adjustments are needed. Communication is straightforward, discussions are constructive, and we can count on their commitment and professionalism."

„I was involved with HWM during the installation of a power manipulator in one of our hot cells. As the installation was to be carried out in a hot cell that had been in place for several decades, one of the challenges was the interfaces between this new manipulator and the existing structures and installations. Another important challenge was the timeline. Throughout the project, HWM handled every aspect very professionally. All communication and actions took place very quickly. The installation phase also went perfectly and we are proud of a very efficient power manipulator!“
