The TELBOT® - complete freedom of movement for demanding environments

The TELBOT® is a semi-autonomous manipulator system for use in highly sensitive and extreme environments that has been tried and tested for over 30 years. Thanks to its special design without cables routed in the arm, the use of bevel gear drives and concentric tubular units, the TELBOT® is completely maintenance-free - even under the influence of radiation or optionally under water (IP68).

Its modular design enables precise adaptation to the respective system: the TELBOT® can be installed on walls, floors, ceilings or on rail systems and is available with variable arm lengths, joint modules and load capacities. This makes it suitable for typical applications such as decontamination, inspection, maintenance, dismantling or fuel handling.

With up to eight freely combinable axes, the TELBOT® offers unlimited mobility in three-dimensional space, including rotation and swivel movements „around corners“. Functions such as infinitely variable speed control, programmable motion sequences, high-precision line guidance and integrated collision avoidance support safe and reproducible work.

With its combination of durability, precision and modular expandability, the TELBOT® is one of the preferred systems in nuclear, chemical and petrochemical plants worldwide.

TELBOT Input Design (Te.I.D.)

The Te.I.D. is a haptic input device from Wälischmiller for telemanipulation and robot control, developed with ergonomics, precision and ease of use in mind. With direct, 1:1 motion transmission and force feedback, it allows the operator to control work arms as if they were guiding them themselves - with significantly reduced physical and mental strain.

Thanks to weight compensation and low friction, the operator hardly feels the load, which prevents fatigue and enables longer operations. The adjustable working height allows both seated and standing operation - ideal for changing application and operating environments.

In short, the Te.I.D. combines high-precision control with outstanding ergonomics and flexibility - ideal for demanding remote handling tasks.

Virtual Reality

The virtual reality environment for the TELBOT® enables the realistic simulation of complex or dangerous work processes before they are carried out in a real environment. An integrated real-time controller transmits all inputs almost instantaneously, allowing operators to carry out training and test scenarios under realistic conditions.

Comprehensive safety functions such as automatic collision avoidance, continuous minimum distance monitoring and the display of danger zones increase process reliability and support precise deployment planning.

Thanks to variable camera and perspective control, complete field of view visualization and the display of accessible positions, the VR environment offers an optimal overview of the workspace. It is ideal for training, complex deployment preparation and testing the suitability of personnel - and is also a cost-effective alternative to real test setups.

Questions and answers Telbot® robotic arm

Telbot® robotic arm in action: these customers are convinced

Which features enable precise and ergonomic remote control of the TELBOT®?

Motorized axes with endless rotary movements, haptic input arms and HMI/joystick control enable sensitive, repeatable movements with improved ergonomics. The TELBOT® can also be flexibly configured and integrated into existing systems without requiring the radiation protection window as an operating point.

Which tools and grippers are available and how are they changed?

From parallel/three-finger grippers and cutting/sawing/milling tools to samplers, measuring and cleaning tools, a broad portfolio is available. Depending on the version, tools can be changed manually or with Quick-Change; the components are designed for environments exposed to radiation and media.

How is the TELBOT® controlled and integrated into systems?

The control runs via HMI/joystick or haptic input devices (Te.I.D.) with adjustable support. Mechanical and electrical interfaces allow connection to cranes, rail systems and existing PLC/control systems; industrial fieldbus/I/O concepts are common. Simulation/offline sequences optionally support cycle and collision checking.

What measures ensure security, ALARA conformity and compliance?

The encapsulated kinematics and radiation-resistant components reduce the risk of contamination and failure, while ALARA is supported by reproducible cycles and remote handling. Acceptances are carried out via FAT/SAT with full documentation; CE and compliance requirements are taken into account on a project-specific basis.

What services and maintenance does TELBOT® offer over its service life?

From engineering, commissioning and training to preventive maintenance and spare parts over many years, operators receive everything from a single source. Optional SLAs, remote support and retrofit upgrades are available - for high availability and predictable operating costs.

How long does a project take and what milestones are there?

Depending on the degree of customization, the typical duration is between 12-15 months (customer-specific arm kinematics/end effectors, system integration, verifications). Milestones are usually: Feasibility check → concept/specification → design/production → FAT/SAT → commissioning & training.
